Frequently Asked
Q. What can I expect from a journaling session at The Journal District?
A. The primary goal of journaling sessions held at The Journal District is to provide a safe space for you to process your thoughts, feelings, and emotions through journaling and creative writing. Group sessions are typically guided and focus on examining a specific mindset or emotion through a series of journal prompts and various journal activities. A Private session is structured in much the same away, however, the client typically has the option of choosing the focus of the session. Sometimes the Group or Private sessions are lighthearted and fun, sometimes they deal with difficult matters, but both are aimed helping you process, move through, and release mindsets, emotions, or feelings that are no longer serving you.

Q. Will I be expected to share my writing?
A. No. While there is often time for sharing throughout our sessions, you are never required to reveal what you have written. Your right to privacy is of the utmost importance in our both Group and Private sessions, therefore, it is up to you how much you choose to share or if you share at all. You are even encouraged to keep your camera and mic off for the entire session if that feels safer to you.

Q. What is a "journalista"?
A. Like a Barista but instead of coffee, it's all things journaling! It is my fancy way of saying that I am someone who creates journals to write in and hosts journaling sessions and programs for you to participate in. I am someone who cares, someone who will hold space for you, witness you, and help you along the journey you are on. However, it it’s important to understand I am NOT a licensed mental health professional and in no way affiliated with the mental heath care profession. If you find that the issues you are facing are far more difficult or painful than you can handle, please seek help from a trusted, licensed mental health professional.
Q. What if I find I’m just not ready or just can’t face what lies beneath?
A. You will never be expected to push beyond what you are able to endure. If at any time you feel a program you have enrolled in is not a good fit for you because its is bringing up things you aren't ready to face, contact me at susan@thejournaldistrict.com and we can discuss what course of action would be best for you at that time.
